Understanding the CIW Ratings System for Home Care
In 2024, Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) began rolling out a formal ratings system for regulated care providers across Wales, including domiciliary support services. From April 2025, it became a requirement for all providers to display their published ratings clearly, helping families and service users make more informed choices when selecting care.

What Do CIW Ratings Involve?
CIW is the official body responsible for inspecting and regulating social care services in Wales. Their inspection reports now include public ratings across four key areas:

Each service is rated as Excellent, Good, Requires Improvement or Poor, based on evidence gathered during inspection. These ratings are available online, helping people find reliable care options more easily.
